Seasonal Sundays #190–Kitchen Organization

Cover_edited-2

Organization is more than having things be in order and look pretty.

kitchen organization 003

This is one of the most high trafficked cabinets in my kitchen, so it’s important to keep it organized.

kitchen organization 004 It’s important that containers are see through or well labeled.

kitchen organization 006

But it’s even more important that items are easily accessible.

While I love these containers as they come in varying sizes, are clear and are stackable,  the problem is their ergonomics. Ergonomics is the study of how equipment can best be designed for comfort, efficiency, safety, and productivity. These containers need to be opened by clicking the two ends, opening the container, and then clicking the two ends to close it – not to mention putting it back into place. Those are just too many steps for most members of my family! I open the cabinet to find the lids scattered about the cabinet. Do you see the one with the clear lid and the granola bars in it? No clicking for that one, just lift off the lid. Amazingly there are many times when the lid for that one is off too.

kitchen organization 014

These old fashioned jars actually work best. You simply pull off the lid – just one movement and it’s just one movement to put the lid back on.

kitchen organization 019

My family can handle that!

When organizing your cabinets, keep in mind the ease with things can be opened and put back in place. It will increase the likelihood of it actually happening!

Being snowed in has provided lots of opportunity for organizing! What have you been organizing?

Alma....I haven't done any organizing lately. But, one thing I know for sure...it's up to me to keep the organization going. If I get lazy for a moment....well...you know what happens! LOL!!
You've done a great job with your pantry. Isn't it amazing what you can do with the extra time you get with a snow day or two or three? ;)

Alma, you are the queen of organization! I enjoy looking at all of your organizing posts and take hints from them all the time. Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm very impressed with your organized pantry, Alma! It looks great. I had a little chuckle at people not putting lids back on; good to know families are the same everywhere. :)

My pantry has been a real challenge for me because it's kind of on the small side. It has been so much better though, since we had it remodeled a few years ago. It works more efficiently now.

Thank you for hosting the party and have a wonderful weekend!

Your pantry is so organized! You are right, simple is best if you want things to stay neat. Although I haven't been snowed-in, I've been trying to organize areas in my home too - just finished sorting earrings and necklaces!

Hi Alma! Thanks for hosting your weekend party for us! I'm not even going to go into how UNorganized my pantry is. Yours, even if it has a few glitches, puts mine to SHAME.

Oh, I got inspired now :) Your pantry is so well organised. Mine is not too bad, I've got everything in Tupperware containers, but every pantry needs a facelift once in a while... :) Too hot to do anything today +38°C - about 100F. Thanks so much for hosting. I think it's the first time this year I've linked up... so Happy New Year, Alma :) Hugs from Australia♥ ~Pernilla

You look so organized. I've been working on other house projects and haven't had time yet to get my attic organized yet. But - whatever it takes to get through this winter that seems like it will never end.

I just jumped on this post when I saw the first picture. I admire your pantry but just knew in my heart that as much as we organize things...someone is going to "un-organize" it!!

My problem is the cabinets for the snack and sweets. I keep the chips closed with plastic clips, but the fam never replaces them. I keep the packages of cookies, etc., in plastic gallon bags with the cut out front of the package to identify it. Again...they don't close them. Grrrr...this will work when hubby and I are empty nesters and saving rubber bands and paper clips. Ha!

XO,
Jane

Your storage is very neat and thanks for the tips on containers -- I've never given it much thought!

I do love those jars with the easily removable lids, but even they would not help me. I just need more space, or significantly less stuff.

So well organized, practical and pretty, too! I have been meaning to straighten up my storage room/cantina, but have just been too lazy, choosing instead to be out and about in mid-60s temps!

Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful weekend!

Wow! Your kitchen is wonderful. I seriously need you to come and do mine! With three little kiddos, things tend to "reorganize" themselves sometimes.

I am organizing my snow shovels so I can grab them and shovel myself out the door! We got another 8 inches last night.
You get an A for an organized cabinet! Very neat.

Oops, forgot to say thanks for hosting too!

Well, now I feel ashamed of my pantry! Total chaos is all I can say. Your's on the other hand gives me inspiration.

I have done some organizing this winter, but yours puts mine to shame! I have wicker baskets that fit into 2 door less shelves in the kitchen that work great for holding things I want to hide, lol.

Thanks for hosting. Sharing my Bermuda tablescape...and wishing winter would end.

Oh, my,
You put me to shame. I need your help organizing my pantry. I can never find anything! Hopefully I can one day open my cupboard and share such organizational skills!

So glad you are spending your time wisely and organizing your pantry. We have had some very cold days in Dallas this winter. Then the past few days and all this next week will be beautiful with highs in the 70's. I have been out shopping at antique malls, thrift stores and estate sales for china, crystal, and linens the past three days in this great weather. :)!!! Today I will begin washing the china and crystal and placing them in storage. I am thus organizing but the weather will be calling me to be outside, too! Hope you will have sunny skies and warmer breezes in your forecast!

Have a happy week!
Pam

Seems we both had organizing on the brain, and I wasn't even snowed in! Keeping those pantries organized and in good working condition is kind of a constant challenge around here, and it's just the hubby and I. Guess who is a bit OCD about organizing......lol! Thanks so much for hosting!

Your pantry is so very well organized. When I was a kid, my mom used to keep the candy in a jar that was very hard to close. She could always tell if we snuck some candy because the lid would be off.
