…at our home, it’s beginning to look…

…a lot like Christmas!

I love these three little angels (a Christmas Tree Shop purchase quite a number of years ago). They make me think of my three little angels – well, one of my angels is in the midst of applying for college and I don’t think that makes anyone angel like, if you get my drift. Let alone, little! LOL! He’s six foot! But, he’ll always be my little angel.

Somehow I always dread putting up the garland (it goes all the way up to the third floor so it a big job) but it has such a major impact on the entire house. My daughter helped me get it up yesterday afternoon. Yeah!

For years I’ve been talking about getting a new artificial tree and this year I finally did it. I ordered it on line and it’s been sitting in it’s boxes in the garage (through Sandy) for the last couple of weeks. I was so anxious to see it up!

I’m very pleased with my purchase. I really think it looks amazingly real. So, it’s not decorated yet, but it’s up!

Just beginning with the details. All of those little touches that help bring the spirit of the season to your home.

The concept of Thanksgiving is beautiful.

A day to gather together with those we love and…

…take the time to…

…be thankful.

We all lead such crazy busy lives,…

…that it’s just that much more important to pause…

…and gather…

…and be thankful.

There is much to be thankful for.

The inspiration for this table came from the material purchased this summer on an expedition with Kathleen of Cuisine Kathleen. The lanterns are from Christmas Tree last year.

The willow mats were from Nell Hill’s; the tea towels cum napkins were a great find at Christmas Tree this year – 64 cents @!!!!; the dinner plate is by 222 Fifth – Maharana; and the salad plate is by Artistic Accents. The lidded pumpkin was an off season purchase at William Sonoma Outlet and the flatware is by Cambridge.

The goblets are from Walmart, a few years back.

The roosters are from Big Lots, quite a number of years ago. They were in the beginning of my collecting! Big Lots just doesn’t seem to carry the same types of things as they used to.

The pitcher and creamer and sugar are Spode. They were a pre-Black Friday score last year and have been hiding in my basement all year waiting for their big debut!

Tip: One of my favorites. Use material to cover your table instead of a tablecloth. The moment I spied this material back in August (at $3.00 a yard!!!) my mind went to Thanksgiving. That’s another thing. Keep your eyes open. You usually find the best deals – off season.

Thanksgiving is Upon Us–Seasonal Sundays # 126

Welcome to Seasonal Sundays at The Tablescaper.With Thanksgiving just a few days away, it is a time that we all stop to reflect on just how fortunate we are.

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, those of us on the Eastern Seaboard seem to have just that much more to be thankful of.

It is interesting that in this day  when every industry seems to be finding technological ways of accomplishing much, and we seem to get caught up in the tide that machines can accomplish all…

…that when disaster strikes you realize just how important humans are.

It is individuals who have taken their time to donate and volunteer and just help each other.

I live in suburbia with my neighbors so close to me, but weeks can go by without me seeing them, let alone chatting with them.

During our ten days without power we saw a whole lot more of our neighbors. We stopped, we chatted, we borrowed outlets to power our gadgets we can’t seem to live without, we borrowed refrigerator space,we did loads of laundry in someone else’s laundry room while sharing a cup of tea in between loads, we shared meals.

I am thankful for my neighbors, friends and family who reached out to us during the storm. I am thankful for being a part of a community that has gone forth and shared of themselves.

Thankful

Welcome to the Tablescaper. We at the Tablescaper household have all survived Hurricane Sandy and life is starting to get back in order. We are truly thankful.  It’s given me great incentive to clean up and clean out and donate!

While I’m trying to get my act back together, I’m sharing one of my favorite Thanksgiving tables. Love the richness of all of the color.

 

 

A Burgundy Thanksgiving

 

 

I hope that you and your family are enjoying a blessed Thanksgiving this year.

Regardless of the many fictitious and romanticized stories surrounding the origins of Thanksgiving,…

…it is a wonderful thing that once a year our entire nation pauses to give thanks.

And to enjoy the bounty that surrounds us.

The inspiration for this table started with this Ralph Lauren tablecloth.

I was thrilled that these turkey towels cum napkins (a purchase last year from Christmas Tree) blended so well.

They provided the opportunity to use my Pottery Barn chargers. I purchased them quite a number of years ago at the Pottery Barn outlet. The Portuguese taupe dinner plates are a recent purchase from HomeGoods. I’m such a color person that I’m not usually drawn to neutral shades, but sometimes that’s just what you need to pull it all together. On a shopping trip this Summer with my good buddy, Kathleen of Cuisine Kathleen, I scored these salad plates on clearance at Pier 1. I love how they match the Pottery Barn chargers.

The stack is topped off with transferware plates from my trip to Brimfield!

The little glass turkeys were a Christmas Tree last year. The goblets were from HomeGoods several years ago.

This fine fellow I purchased last year! He’s a tureen by Spode.
