Hurricane Sandy

Welcome to The Tablescaper. We are fine, but what is surrounding us is amazing. This house is two houses away from us.

To see these tremendous trees pulled up from the roots is quite the site.

This is at the end of our block.

The power lines are down right across the block.

In order to stay safe, I haven’t ventured far, but from what I hear from neighbors, this is all over our town.

Love the large branch still dangling and ready to let loose with any breeze.

We lost power on Monday evening. We still have yet to get it back. Not sure when that will happen. School is cancelled.

But we are safe and that’s what is most important. Thank you dear Lord.

The Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns –Seasonal Sundays #124

Welcome to Seasonal Sundays.

Recently I went with one of my Girl Scout troops to see the Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns at Westbury Gardens.

I was quite an amazing experience.

There were over 5,000 hand carved pumpkins.

Some were real.

Some were faux.

Some were scary.

Some were decorative.

But all were hand carved.

It couldn’t have been more appropriate,…

…since I was there with my Girl Scout troop,…

…that FOUR of the pumpkins…

…were dedicated to Girl Scouts!

We were so fortunate to have a glorious evening…

…to walk in the woods…

It was hard to choose…

…which was your favorite.

I think this was mine.

The detail was amazing!

Sophisticated Halloween

Welcome to The Tablescaper.

I find it interesting to hear the comments of tablescaping bystanders.

You know. Those in your home that tolerate all of our nonsense.

Week after week of pulling out a ton of dishes,…

…only to put them away…

…without a morsel of food having touched them.

Well, as I was preparing this table and…

…my daughter walked by.

Oh, she said,…

“A sophisticated Halloween”.

And so the name stuck!

These black goblets were my score this week! I happened by a Williams Sonoma and they had these marked down to $5.00 @. They only had 5, but were able to locate more, so 7 more are on their way to me.

Love the high drama of these napkin rings from Century 21. I think Kathleen may have been on that shopping trip. It’s when I got the sheer black topper and coordinating napkins.

The treble clef flatware seemed the perfect choice.

And it all started with this runner from HomeGoods, which I thought gave a bit of an elegant flare to Halloween.

Tip: When you’re tablescaping: layer, layer, layer! In this tablescape, I have a tablecloth, a topper and a runner – plus chargers. Even the napkins are layered. Layering adds so much depth to your table.
