Welcome to Seasonal Sundays.
I love to take a summer drive and just wander.
As I shared a few weeks back (click HERE for post), I had gone to Shelter Island by ferry. Shelter Island (per the US Census) is about 27 square miles but only approximately 12 miles of it is land! 15 square miles are water!
One of the more picturesque parts of Shelter Island which was started in 1871 as a summer resort. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 as the houses that were built were Stick-Eastlake, Queen Anne Style and Colonial Revival.
Between 1872 an 1880 about 70 summer cottages were built in the area.
As we wandered, we came upon …![]()
…which had…
…not to mention…
…live music!
After a bit of refreshment…
…we felt that we had travelled to a faraway place…
…but in fact we weren’t far away at all.
So what have you been doing this summer? The Tablescaper wants to know!

OHHH! I would like to see more photos of this cute island. Did you take more? My post goes well with your theme today, if you look.
Thank you for hosting during this busy summer.
I have started blogging and tablescaping this summer, thanks to inspirational blogs like yours! Your designs are wonderful!
looks like you had a beautiful day:@)
Shelter Island looks like a fun place to get away for a bit, even if it was close to home! Wish I could say I've done something exciting. Hmmm, we did go out for fish 'n chips last night and played some darts with friends. I guess the little pub, called The Londoner, took us away for awhile.
Looks like you had a great day trip!
I love doing that, it's amazing what fun you can have in your own backyard.
Thanks so much for hosting!
Hugs,
Patti

I would so enjoy seeing all those period homes. Thanks so much for hosting and for sharing Shelter Island with us!

Keeping close to home and doing necessary but rather boring stuff. I love day trips, I could do a week of day trips and be very happy. I have never been to Shelter Island, is it like Fire Island with the 'no car' rule? xo
Brings back memories of our visit to Shelter Island one spring. It's a lovely place.
I've been enjoying time with my sister this week. A few day trips to visit antique shops in nearby small towns, shopping, and simple sister time ~ that's what I've been up to.
Thanks for hosting! ~ sarah

Hi, I loved your 'walk down the road' I went to USA with my son and family a few years ago and we loved nothing more than walking down the road looking at all the houses! They were just so different from the style of houses here in Wales! Thanks for hosting. Joan

What a pleasant surprise to see Shelter Island. My husband summered there every year as a boy and they had a home there for a very long time.
I found you via Wives with Knives and have linked up a salad with cherries, goat cheese & pistachios that's perfect for summertime. Love your website and will have a lot of fun looking around.

Always a nice day to spend an afternoon! I remember my first trip there with Mike, in my Healey. Filled it with little pumpkins for my class. I think they were a nickel each!
