Seasonal Sundays # 97–The Dining Room Reveal

Seasonal Sunday Teapot copy
Welcome to Seasonal Sundays.
Dining Room Reveal 029
After much ado, (and plain old hard work)…my newly decorated dining room!

Dining Room Reveal 004
I loved the way it was before (large floral wall paper and matching swags and jabots), but it was over 18 years old and time for a change!
Dining Room Reveal 010
My starting point were these geometric patterned drapes, still traditional but with a much fresher take. Can you believe I got the drapes at Target?!?*?
  Dining Room Reveal 020
  Copy of corner cabinet 003
After ……………………………………………………Before
I love color and patterns so this is a huge change for me. But, it was time for a change. It’s clean and crisp.
Dining Room Reveal 023
The silver sconces got new shades in silver silk. Not everything is final. I’m sure that sideboard will be filled with more before long.
Dining Room Reveal 018
I love how this oil works with the new color of the walls. All of my furniture seems to pop!
2 001
As does the wood work!
Dining Room Reveal 024
The jury is still out on the new rug (Ballards with a free return shipping policy if I change my mind). It’s a lot of change to take in all at once.
Dining Room Reveal 003
So, lots of change (and lots of work – and I didn’t do the painting itself) but I am pleased with the results. What do you think?

Your new dining room is beautiful! The curtains are wonderful. I would not have guessed Target...great find!

Thanks for hosting, Seasonal Sunday. My post this week is a departure from my usual topic. But we enjoyed the day and I wanted to share.

Your new dining room look is beautiful and elegant. I remember very well when the swags and wallpaper with ribbons and flowers were just the absolute top in style. I still like your previous dining room which was so bright and cheerful, but this is wonderful too, and you are right that this is certainly the style now and I love your drapes and the elegant updated feel in there now!! Let us know what you decide about the rug! I once purchased a very light oriental rug but I returned it because I couldn't get used to the look, but yours is under dark furniture and lightens the room so nicely. Excellent job!! Linda

That's a big change! I think it was beautiful before but it's much more up to date now. The wall color and drapes are such a nice backdrop to silver. Your furniture would look good anywhere (so classic) and I think that rug looks great but I would like a sisal too. Did you ever consider going solid?

This is part of the reason I love blogging and interacting with fellow bloggers so much. I am able to get so many great ideas!!! I have been chomping at the bit to make changes in our dining room and library which are both in the front of the house. When you said those window treatments came from Target, you just made my day!!!! First of all, I had no idea Target even had window treatments. The pattern you chose is heavenly!!! Absolutely fabulous!!! I will have to take a little peek at their wiindow treatment area next time I'm near a Target store. I am just floored....and SO happy! I happen to think the rug you chose is A-! perfection for the room. It appears to have muted tones, and it just looks great! The wall color is fab, the trim is pristine, and the whole space just looks crisp, clean and inviting. High five!

Hi Alma,

I think it's stunning! I'm like you as well in that I love pattern and color. I love big florals but they are just not the thing these days. I've been contemplating redoing my living room furniture and drapes because they are a floral pattern...I still like them though! lol I can see how this is going to take time to soak in as it's so different but it really looks beautiful. I love the wall color. Your furnishings do all seem to really pop! They are beautiful. I was trying to get a better look at the prints in the first photo...love the way they are matted...I think it's a mat. I'd love to see close ups of those.

Enjoy your new room!

Nancy

yes the new drapes and removing the dated wall paper makes such a difference. I enjoy watching make overs. Less is more. They take everything out of the rm but the main items needed. Like your table and china hutch. Then they look the rm over and see if anything else is needed. If not they find a home in another part of the home. I noticed one photo had a window and a wood table against the window and to the side another table all on the same wall? I removed the wall paper in our master bd. rm. it was there when we moved in . It looks great with just a coat of paint. Thanks for the new look.
