Welcome to The Tablescaper.
As the New Year begins, we all tend to make various resolutions. Last year I called them intentions, but it’s the same idea.
One of my resolutions (which is one I also made last year, funny how often that happens) is to buy less and use more of what I have.
That resolution is particularly focused on tablescaping.
With that thought in mind, I started to look at my vast collection of dishes. I have so many dishes that I’ve never used.
And many dishes that I have used, but want to use in a different way.
I love blue and white dishes. I have a ton of blue and white dishes.
I seem to have a pretty decent supply of light blue ones too.
So, in an effort to not only follow my resolution of using more of what I already have, but to embrace it, I’ve decided to make January a study in BLUE.
As many of you know, each week I post a different tablescape. With very few (maybe two?) exceptions I have posted a different tablescape every week since I started blogging. Over two and half years, that’s a lot of tables.
And of course over the course of those two and a half years, there have been a number of blue tables.
Here’s the thing. Just in case you haven’t noticed, I like variety. A lot of variety. They do say variety is the spice of life.
So my little challenge will be use BLUE in all of my tables throughout January AND to make them varied.
We’ll see how I do. No, I don’t have them preplanned. I have a concept or two, but that’s it. So it truly will be a challenge for me.
But, I’ve got a lot of dishes! LOL!
So join me over the next several weeks as I explore BLUE!
So where the above plates are from is obvious, what else? The little lidded coupes are from Target (they came three on a little tray, got them in clearance). The tablecloth is vintage, from my Mom’s collection. The vase and the candlestick holders my children purchased for me for my birthday or Mother’s Day (they’re close together so I’m not sure which) at a local yearly tag sale. Sterling flatware was my Mother-in-law’s, Towele Fontana. What else? Oh, the glasses. The cut glass ones were from Horchow. The goblets are vintage, purchased at a Depression Glass show. The napkins are from quite a number of years ago from clearance at William Sonoma. The napkin rings and salt and pepper shakers are from Bombay. Miss that store and all of it’s BLUE!

Can't wait to see all of your blue posts. I love blue too, but only have a couple of selections of blue china. Blue and white is so refreshing and crisp. Love your tables.

oh i love blue dishes!!!..you have the best...I am always in awe of all the settings you do!
I too have many dish sets and have a pantry room for them...which was featured in a Canadian mag!
I will be watching with great interest this month especially!
I must say when I visit here I realize how much I miss 'blue', it just doesn't go with my decor these days. I have to one day rectify that. I love blue and white dishes, though. I always wanted to get a few settings of Blue Onion. I will enjoy the month of Blue January. xo
Wonderful! I think that I have a crush on Devon Cottage. I look forward to your blue January. Thank you for inviting us for a peak at the goodness to come. Happy New Year! Cherry Kay
I love this blue and white table and look forward to your month of blue! Should be fun and a interesting challenge. I'm trying to tablescape more and buy less this year. Make myself be more creative with what I have.
You're off to a great start! You have such a creative and elegant way of putting it all together, I can't wait to see what you come up with!!
Well, I'm going to be eager to see all your blues. I think it's a great idea to focus on a color for the month and design different tables on that theme. Clever of you!
I have lots of the Spode Blue Room, each plate a different design. I bought them years ago when I was hosting an after wedding brunch here. Maybe I'll get inspired to think blue in January. ;-)

Love your blue dishes. Can't wait to see what you do with all your blue. I too have resolved to do with less. And I'm purging. Scary!! Your tables are always so pretty and inspiring. xo marlis

What is it about blue and white! So traditional, regal and just beautiful...my favorite dishes...any and all blue & white! Looking forward to seeing more!
Blessings,
Cindy
That is lovely! I love blue also, but I don't have the inventory you do, who does?:)
Those little blue and white covered pots are wonderful!
I was just thinking the same thing today when I was in the basement. So many things I have never used.
So we won't be buying, I'll remind you, but as you said, you said the same thing last year, lol, we are hopeless!
Looking forward to more blue! No one has the eye like you for layering patterns. Its always exciting to see whats next!!!!
Ooooh, love all those blue and white dishes! Just beautiful! Can't wait to see what else you do with your collection during January!
Katherine
Ahh, love the blue! By coincidence I posted a blue and white set of dinnerware! I have at least one of those patterns you showed! I'll have to pull together something in blue too! Thanks for sharing and I always love seeing you mix of things!
Your choice is so exciting!!! Blue is also my favorite and I can't wait to see all your variations.....what a challange, and I know you will be very creative!!! And I agree....no more buying.....unless of course its an absolute bargain that can't be passed up......no,no
hugs...cleo
I too LOVE blue. My kitchen is done in it. And my bedroom is powder gray/blue and white. Your table as usual looks beautiful. Glad to read about how you think when you put them together. You are such a natural.

Can't wait to see what all you come up with, because I'm sure it'll be creative and wonderful. Fun "intention" for Blah-uary...blue to cheer us up, or blue because we're blue from the cold? Love this one!! ~Zuni
I so love blue and white and look forward to your blue and white theme for January. You have an incredible collection!..Would love to know your secret on how you store them all!..
I had drifted away from using blues. I incorporated blue throughout my home in the 70's and 80's. I am currently transitioning back to those colors...
I am a new follower and look forward to your beautiful tablescapes!
Oh those dishes! I have these pinned on Pinterest under a board I call "Wishing, wishing." I spotted the plates somewhere last year and fell in love with them. You're the first person that I've seen use them in a tablescape.
I love this blue challenge that you have for yourself for January and look forward to seeing what you come with!
I will look forward to your BLUE posts this month! This table is really lovely -- eye candy for us blue and white lovers. Your beautiful blue stemware really caught my eye!
That's a terrific challenge for the upcoming year! I was forced to do it last year after our Savannah disaster, and I was amazed at just how much I could do with what I had. I keep a computerized catalog of all my dishes and accessories, so I can never really forget that I have it...it's just that I keep going back to the old tried-and-true pieces. I'm trying really hard to break that mold. Meanwhile, this is a beautiful study in blue & white! I love blue so much I could easily become a Smurf! :-)
Oh goodness...what a gorgeous table. Your dishes are beautiful!! I'm really looking forward to see all your variations on blue this month! Happy New Year!
What a sumptuous treat this blue & white tablescape post is, I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have in your blue collection.
BTW how do you manage to take such amazing photographs of your tablescapes? They are so professional they look as if they came straight out of a decorating magazine!
You always get me with your blue and white! My very favorite.
I know from seeing your "Where Do I Keep It All" posts, you DO have a lot of dishes!Maybe when you go into your dish room, you should think of it as "shopping" and get your "fix" that way (you could bring Kathleen over for a "browse" too! lol)Looking forward to seeing you "Blue January", this one was terrific!

Blue and white tablescapesare a favorite of mine, and your tablescapes are always a favorite of mine, so I know I'm going to love visiting you this month. I know whatever you create on your table will be spectacular. I also have way too much china, but I do love china. I hardly ever buy anything new for my tables, but I don't create masterpieces on my table like you. Can't wait to see all of your blue creations! laurie
Love your blue table and can't wait to the rest of them this month! Your stemware always takes my breath away! I will have to forward them over to my dear mother-in-law. She will be drooling all over the place as she LOVES blue!
Oh how pretty your January blues are. I don't have a whole lot of blue dishes....so I'll be enjoying a month of blue posts from your table. Love your pretty transferware.
That is a great idea!! I love things like that. I'm sort of a color coordinated and theme person so I can't wait to see it.
This table is lovely. Blue and white happens to be one of my favorite table combinations.
I'll certainly be following you this month, as I do every month, but am especially interested in how you're going to shake things up every week with the blue. Blue is my fav. color. You've given me some ideas . . .. thanks for the inspiration.
Linda
I have never been much of a blue person, but this table is STUNNING!! I think the darkness of the blues and the contrast with the white is what appeals to me! And of course your GORGEOUS stemware...just amazing!!!
Looking forward to the rest of the month!
So many lovely dishes! I like the lily with this tablesetting.
I so agree with everything you said in your post. I also tend to make the same resolutions (intentions) :) year after year. I was just telling my husband this evening that in 2012 I'm going to try to buy less and use more of what I already have on hand.
I also agree with you about blue and white. I really love blue and white (I miss The Bombay Company too). I'm looking forward to seeing your January tables.
Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy 2012 to you!

I haven't visited in awhile. my loss clearly. I love blue tables. I have a whole set for eight of blue and white dinnerware-all different. I can't wait to see what you do with the January blue settings.
I love blue and white! Now you've made January a FUN month! Can't wait to see what's to come. I'm sure I'll get a lot of ideas, you are always so creative!
Beautiful! You have a dream dish pantry! Looking forward to your blues :)
What a great collection of blue dishes you have. I love this one too, just a beautiful setting, as always! I have a giveaway I hope you visit me and comment on it, that's all you have to do. Hugs,
